Alyssa Housh
Alyssa Ashworth-Housh is the founder of The Organic Salon Denver, which she opened in 2016 with a vision to create a different kind of salon - one rooted in care for both clients & the artists working in her salon. She set out to build a space where elevated artistry, low-tox practices & intentional care exist in balance - all grounded in real human care.
Alyssa’s first career began in 2002, when she graduated cosmetology school with a clear vision of one day owning her own salon. While working in the industry, she decided to pursue a business degree to support that dream. Her path shifted after taking an environmental science course, leading her to earn a degree in Environmental Studies with a minor in Sustainability in 2011. While she was thriving as a self-employed artist, she felt conflicted being part of an industry that is wasteful & toxic on many levels. Still, she couldn’t walk away from what she loved - the deep, energetic connections she shares with clients, the creative expression of her craft & the ritualistic, hands-on nature of her work - guiding each transformation as a release of what no longer serves into something lighter, more aligned & ready to move forward.
For a few years after graduation, Alyssa balanced her solo salon business with her work at an environmental nonprofit, while continuously refining ways to reduce the environmental footprint of her business. This chapter became the foundation for The Organic Salon Denver. After moving to Denver in 2014, Alyssa continued traveling back to Kansas City to serve her clients. In 2016, she followed an intuitive pull & opened The Organic Salon Denver as a solo artist, ready to build something different.
Today, Alyssa is most proud of the team that has grown within the salon - an incredible group of emotionally intelligent, loving, nurturing, passionate, down-to-earth & wildly talented artists. Each person has brought their own perspective, helping shape the salon into what it is today. Alyssa leads with collaboration at the core, guided by both team & client feedback while staying deeply connected to the soul of the salon.
The salon itself is guided by a set of core values that shape every decision & experience within the space: a commitment to environmentally sustainable, low-tox services; prioritizing living wages & healthy work-life balance so artists can build long, sustainable careers (this is how master artists are developed—through support, not burnout); cultivating a safe, affirming space for historically marginalized communities; and giving back through social justice advocacy, fundraising & community support.
Behind the chair, Alyssa is known for her intuitive, collaborative approach - blending technical mastery with deep listening to create results that feel aligned, expressive & sustainable over time. Whether working with curls, crafting low-maintenance color or guiding a ritual haircut, her work is rooted in transformation that goes beyond the surface.
At its core, The Organic Salon Denver is a reflection of Alyssa’s belief that beauty can be done differently—with intention, integrity & care for the entire eco-system.
